American, 1882-1922 was a Texan Impressionist painter, often called "the father of Texas painting." He attended West Texas Military Academy and was graduated in 1900. Julian Onderdonk was born in San Antonio, TX to Robert Jenkins Onderdonk (a painter) and Emily Gould Onderdonk. He was raised in South Texas and was an enthusiastic sketcher and painter. At 19, with the help of a generous neighbor, Julian left Texas in order to study with the renowned American Impressionist William Merritt Chase. Julian's father, Robert, has also once studied with Chase. Julian spent the summer of 1901 on Long Island at Chase's Shinnecock School of Art. He studied with Chases for a couple of years and then moved to New York to attempt to make a living as an eu plain aire artist. Francesco Vecellio
(c. 1475 - 1560) was an Italian painter of the early Renaissance, best known as the elder brother of the painter Titian. In his youth, he was a soldier. As a painter, he was mainly active in 1520-1530s in Cadore. In 1524, he signed an altarpiece for San Vito in Cadore. In 1540s, he painted a polyptych at Candide. In late 1540s he painted the organ shutters of San Salvatore in Venice. He painted an Annunciation for San Nicola di Bari, now in the Accademia.
SAFTLEVEN, Cornelis
Dutch painter (b. 1607, Gorinchem, d. 1681, Rotterdam).Painter and draughtsman. After training as a painter in Rotterdam, he may have visited Antwerp c. 1632-4. From c. 1634 he was in Utrecht, where his brother (2) Herman the younger had settled, and they collaborated on a portrait of Godard van Reede and his Family (1634-5; Maarssen, Slot Zuylen). In 1637 Cornelis was back in Rotterdam, where in 1648 he married Catharina van der Heyden (d Rotterdam, 1654). The year after her death, he married Elisabeth van der Avondt. He became dean of the Guild of St Luke in Rotterdam in 1667.
